Romney in
the presidential debate on October 3, 2012 said – oil and gas increases have
been on private not government land and he’ll change that.
Paul
Ryan voted on June 21, 2012 for HR 4480 Domestic Energy and
Jobs Act - Requires the Secretary of the Interior
(SI) to annually offer for sale at least 25% of the known federal oil or gas
fields or special tar sands areas (Alaska and off the coast of Virginia);
authorizes the SI to identify additional federal lands to be leased and repeals
the EPA’s designation of the Colville River Delta as an Aquatic Resource of
National Importance. The Act establishes a Transportation Fuels Regulatory
Committee (talk of reducing government only applies to the elimination of those
agencies like the EPA and FDA that protect us) and prohibits delays and
protests; as
of October 1, the Senate had done nothing with HR4480. Ryan also voted May 5, 2011 for HR 1230 Offshore Leasing Act to
increase drilling. On September 10 it’s reported Shell began drilling off the
Alaskan coast.
In CNN
Opinion’s October 6 report it said - Romney is right that Obama has not been
willing to open up some public lands for oil drilling and coal mining. That is a good
thing. If it were left up to people like Romney, there might be oil rigs in
places like the Grand Canyon. That approach not only desecrates our nation's
natural beauty, it is an unnecessary and excessive risk. The United States is
on its way to being a net oil exporter, without jeopardizing the beauty and
integrity of our public lands. Both conservatives and liberals should be happy
with Obama's energy policies. Oil, coal and natural gas production is up, which
should please the right. But energy efficiency and conservation is also up,
which should please the left. Romney -- like his running mate, Paul Ryan --
sounds great when he is spinning his yarns about America under Obama. But he
knows precious little about the renewable energy industry and is relying on Tea
Party talking points to score cheap points, at the expense of America's clean energy
entrepreneurs.
It’s time Republicans quit trading
off the American people and America’s land for their friends and supporters.
