‘This Week With George Stephanopoulos’ George brought up Romney’s podcast of
September 29 which said “We’ve seen a confused, slow, and consistent response
to the terrorist attack in Libya, a refusal to be frank with the American
people about what happened and a complete failure to explain the growing
terrorist threat we face in the region” and that the House Chairman of the
Homeland Security Committee has asked the UN Ambassador Susan Rice to resign.
Plouffe responded absolutely not, there is an ongoing investigation, our
intelligence goes on what we have at the moment and we have more now than we
did within 24 hours of the event.
Romney’s comments irritate me. On July 30 Romney said the
books he read (Jared Diamond-Guns, Germs and
Steel, David Landes-The Wealth
and Poverty of Nations)
helped him understand decline in great civilizations. His statements resulted
in the Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat (senior aide to President Abbas) saying:
"It is a racist statement and this man doesn't realize that the
Palestinian economy cannot reach its potential because there is an Israeli
occupation. It seems to me this man lacks information, knowledge, vision and
understanding of this region and its people. He also lacks knowledge about the
Israelis themselves. I have not heard any Israeli official speak about cultural
superiority." Romney in 2008 said he wouldn’t have gone after Bin Laden; on
September 9 it was reported that 23 of the top 30 Al Qaeda commanders were
either dead or captured in the last few years; on September 11 the #2 Al Qaeda
leader in Yemen was killed. When the Libya incident occurred Romney didn’t care
that he didn’t have his facts straight before going after the President. Romney’s
foreign policy views coming from books not experience and his shoot first aim
later attitude is dangerous. The audacity of the Republicans to question the
President’s foreign policy when their candidate would have done nothing to stop
terrorists and constant flip-flopping just amazes me – they really do think
we’re stupid.
