One Million Moms.com

My Mother used to say if you can’t say something nice about someone then don’t say anything at all. I can’t wrap my head around groups like Onemillionmoms.com, the Family Leader and the National Socialists Movement. These people must wake up and say – I feel unhappy today, I’ll see who I can pick on to make myself feel better. These groups are bullies and they are probably the cause of bullying in schools.
Let’s go back to last year’s Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) when Onemillionmoms.com’s Monica Cole said - we will not be able to watch the show with Chaz on there because it’s going to be very confusing for children and he just shouldn’t be included in the cast. Before getting into the Chaz issue I’d like to know how these mothers explained the scantily dressed women on the show and the Gay and Bi-sexual dancers that had already been on the show. DWTS got many Americans dancing which I think is great; dancing is a positive thing to do, it’s not criminal and it helps to decrease our obesity problem. I do wonder how they explain the atrocities on the news and if they watch other reality shows as I find the behavior on many of the others set a very poor example of good behavior. But enough of this; now back to 42 year old Chaz. It’s obvious that the Onemillionmoms.com people aren’t intelligent enough to know that Chaz corrected a birth burden that allowed him to put his mind and body in compliance with one another; his actions also support their religious belief that marriage is between a man and a woman. The children Monica speaks of shouldn’t be of an age to be aware of his situation. Prior to seeing the show, no child would know Chaz was not born a man unless they have either already seen information regarding his surgery (which negates her argument) or the parents have discussed their prejudice in front of their children. I have a problem with people’s fears turning into bullying. Only because Chaz chose to disclose his situation on the show might a child question his or her parents about their own sexuality. In my opinion these people just didn’t want to deal with a real life situation; they’re probably the same ones that don’t deal with other questions of a sexual nature and that’s why sex education is in the schools and not at home. I also think that their concerns are not about promoting family values if they do not support non-criminal family members of all types. I do wonder if these critics would take the life of their own child whether physically or mentally to support their prejudices.
I was also disappointed that it was reported that Oprah chose this time to say she didn’t like reality shows. She had her own talent discovery shows as well as a show with the DWTS cast and I remember how happy she was for Emmett Smith. Chaz was on her show, did an OWN special and he could’ve used her support. But, I herald the DWTS producers for their decision to ask Chaz to participate and Chaz for deciding to do so. I also agreed with Howard Bragman that you can use Chaz’s decision to dance as a teaching experience if you choose to. It won’t make your child Transgender but it could save your kid’s life; there’s a huge suicide rate and they could be seeing one positive influence. Through a discussion with their child, these people would find out that they should be grateful that it’s not their child having to deal with the hardship of having a mind in the wrong body or be helping their child to discover who they are.
On February 8, 2012 I learned that Onemillionmoms.com tried to get Ellen DeGeneres fired but JC Penny stuck with their decision to make her their spokesperson. Onemillionmoms.com posted on their Facebook page – By jumping on the pro-gay bandwagon JC Penny is attempting to gain a new target market and in the process they will lose customers with traditional values that have been faithful to them over all these years. . . The majority of JC Penny shoppers will be offended and choose to no longer shop there. Ellen said the qualities she stands for are: honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need; these are her traditional values and what she stands for. A clip of Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly was shown asking a woman (named Sandy) what the difference is between a McCarthy era Communist blacklist in the 50s and the Onemillionmoms saying hey JC Penny and all you other stores, don’t you hire any gay people, don’t you dare; he said this JC Penny thing is a witch hunt and it shouldn’t happen. On this show actress Julie Bowen (wife and mother) said - I have never shopped at JC Penny but I’m going to now; I’ll buy things and give it to charity just to make those people mad and wrong. Onemillionmoms.com has about 40,000 followers and in my opinion after looking at what they object to they could be worse than National Socialists Movement.
I like many others hope this group and others like it is not a sign of the American people’s attitude. This is NOT what we as a nation are about. We all have different likes and that’s what makes the world a more interesting place to live. As long as we are alive we should be continuing to learn and grow. If you surround yourself with people just like you, life might be a little simpler but you learn nothing; Chaz and Ellen give you an opportunity to become better people.
