Campaigning February 1-7, 2012

On February 2, 2012 Donald Trump endorsed Mitt Romney (the billionaire has paired up with the millionaire); Romney was just as surprised as the media as previous Romney/Trump encounters were not positive. When Trump was going to moderate a debate, Romney said he wouldn’t attend and Trump called him and others that wouldn’t attend losers. There were also Trump’s statements saying “he’s (Romney’s) going to lose, he just doesn’t resonate” and “if you look at his record as Governor it wasn’t totally stellar, his job production was not great at all, in fact it was the third worse in the nation”. I know that in the hearts of Republicans they know that creating jobs and improving our economy will only fuel support of the President and this they cannot have so they’ll continue with the rhetoric and constant reminder that the most important thing to them is to beat Obama and not do what’s best for the country.
On February 2 it was reported that in October 2011, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) reported a salmonella outbreak at a Mexican style fast food restaurant chain - Restaurant Chain A – and withheld giving the restaurant’s name, keeping it from the media and the public. It was reported that the outbreak involved one of the suppliers for its taco ingredients and more Americans die from salmonella than e-coli poisoning. Food Safety News found out and confirmed the Restaurant Chain A was Taco Bell (they also found out that the same thing happened 2 years ago with Taco Bell). Taco Bell said the outbreak has been contained even though they don’t know what caused it and made no comment on why the FDA and CDC kept their name a secret.
On February 3 it was announced that comedian Roseanne Barr had officially filed to run as the Green Party candidate for the presidency as she feels both parties are controlled by corporations. I agree with Roseanne and hold no ill will toward her but I hope this will pull votes from Republicans that know they don’t have a good candidate instead of from Democrats dissatisfied with our present economy and therefore the President.
On February 4 Indiana’s Election Chief found guilty of voter fraud. Ron Paul is the only candidate that believes in legalized prostitution. In response to the Romney comment, Santorum says he doesn’t want to belong to a Republican party that doesn’t care about every single person in America having the opportunity to rise in America. Mitt Romney takes Nevada with 43% of the votes, Gingrich with 26%, Paul with 18% and Santorum with 13%.
On February 1 we heard that Chrysler reported a profit for the first time in 14 years. Chrysler made an ad that was aired during the Super Bowl’s halftime. The ad with Clint Eastwood was according to Fox News a payback to the President for the bailout money. Chrysler said it was making a statement about its comeback and the possibilities for Americans and Eastwood said he has no political affiliation with Obama but if he or any other politician wants to run with the spirit of that ad - go for it. Instead of cheering that Chrysler made a comeback Republicans don’t like the ad because Romney opposed the bailout and it makes the President look good.
Gingrich failed to qualify for the February 7 Missouri ballot and the result was Santorum 55%, Romney 25% and Paul 12%. On this same date Minnesota votes showed Santorum 45%, Paul 27%, Romney 17% and Gingrich 11% and in Colorado it was Santorum 40%, Romney 35%, Gingrich 13% and Paul 12%. Santorum quickly raised $1 million after these wins.
I gave more thought about the poor. The 2011 Health and Human Services poverty thresholds for the contiguous 48 states and DC (Hawaii and Alaska are higher) are: single – $10,890, 2 - $14,710, 3 - $18,530, 4 - $22,350, 5 - $26,170, 6 - $29,990, 7 - $33,810, 8- $37,630 with $3,820 for each additional person. I guess they’re in poverty because no state has an economy that allows for people to rent a place, pay for utilities, eat and have money for clothes and transportation at the amounts identified. On December 7 we heard about a Texas (TX) woman who shot her kids and committed suicide after being denied food stamps and on December 30 a TX man killed 6 family members in a Christmas murder-suicide because he was struggling financially. Remember Romney’s $10,000 wager to Perry and ask how Republicans can fix the struggle of the poor without additional revenue from the rich (if they take more funds from the middle class they could end up placing those on the border into the poverty category). It is our duty under the Constitution to provide for the general welfare of all people even if we have to take from those well off.
