Oprah's Message

When I was working I didn’t get to see Oprah and wasn’t able to TVO. When I did watch, some of the shows horrified me; some made me laugh and some compelled me to look inside myself. Every emotion surfaced at one time or the other. The following is a summary of Oprah’s May 25, 2011 finale:
1.      She never missed a day of work because she knew people were waiting to hear whatever it was she had to offer and that being on the show, a teacher, was her calling. Instead of teaching a few in a classroom, she taught many in their homes.
2.      Everybody has a calling and your real job in life is to figure out what that is and get about the business of doing it. It doesn’t have to be big, it can be volunteering to rock babies, make pies, train puppies for our wounded soldiers and more. A ‘Calling’ lights you up and lets you know you are exactly where you’re supposed to be. It illuminates the world. What Oprah forgot to say is that it’s something good, not harmful.
3.   Your calling platform, your circle of influence, is wherever you are, no matter how small. It could be a classroom, friends, family, neighbors, or coworkers. In every way in every day you show people who you are; your life speaks for you and when you do that you will receive in direct proportion to how you give.
4.      Circumstances are different for all of us but the power is the same. You can help somebody; you can listen, forgive, or heal. You have the power to change somebody’s life. Look around. You may not have to look any further than your own family or your own self. Don’t get it confused. It doesn’t have to be something that makes you famous. We’re all confused about fame versus service in this country. Your passion could be something as simple as popping zits that lead to the best facial.
5.   Her great wish is that we carry whatever we’re supposed to be doing forward, not waste anymore time, and start embracing the life that is calling you and use your life to serve the world.
6.  She said that in her 25 years of doing the show she learned that nobody but you are responsible for your life and all life is energy, you are responsible for the energy you create for yourself and bring to others – the world is responding in kind; Newton’s 3rd law of motion is real: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, it’s the abiding law that she lives by, it’s the Golden Rule to the 10th power – do unto others as you would have them do unto you; when you get that, you are responsible for your life, everything changes, don’t wait for somebody else to fix, save or complete you.
7.     Through the guests she learned that there was no reason to feel superior to anybody, there is a common thread that runs through all our pain and suffering and that is unworthiness, the feeling you’re not worthy enough to own the life you were created for, even people who think they deserve to be happy and have nice things feel unworthy once they have them; there’s a difference between thinking you deserve to be happy and knowing you are worthy of happiness; we often block our own blessings because we don’t feel we are inherently good enough, smart enough, pretty enough or worthy enough; you’re worthy because you are born and you are here, you alone are enough. She said she’s spoken to a lot of arrogant, mean spirited bullies and batterers and all were masking the same thing, a sense of unworthiness. She said all 30,000 people she spoke to wanted validation; every person you ever will meet shares a common desire, do you see me, do you hear me, does what I say mean anything to you. (Listen with an open heart and open mind.)
8.      She said she could feel the presence of God even before she had a name for it; she felt the voice speaking to her, all of us have that same voice, be still and know it; you can acknowledge it or not, you can worship it or not, you can praise it or ignore it or you can know it. She says she waits and listens for the guidance that’s greater than her meager mind; the only time she’s made mistakes is when she didn’t listen. She knows God is love and God is life and your life is always speaking to you; it starts as a whisper and if you don’t pay attention it gets louder and louder.
9.    She hopes that everyone will be a safe harbor for somebody else, their safe place to fall; connect, embrace, liberate and love, then spread it to two and then as many as you can.
10.  Her parting words of wisdom were that she understands the manifestation of grace and God; there are no coincidences; there is only divine order.
I wonder how many people actually took Oprah’s lessons to heart and became better people/workers.
